So I’ve begun asking people at work, what is your favorite book (or two books, it’s hard to choose)? I think that people’s favorite books say a lot about them and I would like to read some of my friend’s favorite books in an attempt to get to know them better. So, friends (that’s all of you that are reading this now), what is your all time favorite book?

My all time favorite book is Mick Harte was here. This is a book I read in elementary school and I have reread it probably once a year since. :)

Montaigne’s Complete works (The Everyman Edition)

    or

Lucretius’ “De rerum Natura” (Loeb Library)

  3. Claire says:

The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger….and…The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon I mean Noel by Ellen Raskin.

The Giver and Lovely Bones tie for third, I think. (I kinda cheated)

I’m so bad at picking out favorites…I know that definately the most encouraging/uplifting book that I have read has been Cold Tangerines by Shauna Neiquist (sp?). But I have really enjoyed so many other books…so hard to choose!

Sarah, I read about your book on Amazon – it sounds amazing. I can see how it would impact you the way it has!

Claire, I think we have the same taste in books, The Time Traveler’s Wife is probably my favorite book and all of the other books that you listed are on my ‘to try’ list (TTW and The Lovely Bones are going to be book club reads, I think).

Ellie, I’ve been wanting to read that book. Do you think you could loan it to me? I promise I’ll give it back!

This is too hard of a question for me. :( However, one that I remember made a huge impact on me was Hinds Feet on High Places. It is an allegory written in the same way as Pilgrim’s Progress. I really enjoyed it and was challenged by some of what the main character, Much Afraid.

I didn’t finish my last sentence. I was challenged by what she walked through and her response to The Shepherd. :)

ALL time favorite, Annie Bananie by Leah Komaiko. ;) I got it from my best friend when we were four and she moved to Washington. I read it probably 50 times and cried every time. Haha. In the adult world, I think my favorites are Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning and Hudson Taylor’s Spiritual Secret (it’s a biography).

Favorite book? But there’s so many!! So not to say it’s my favorite, but the one that’s touched me the most (lately) is Mitch Albom’s For One More Day. That one did make me cry.

classic: A brave new world by aldous huxley. But i haven’t read it recently – maybe it’s time for a re-read to make sure it’s still my favorite.

contemporary:(ie ophrah’s book club selections), i really enjoyed james frey’s “a million little pieces”. i’ve also read “my friend leonard” and am currently reading “bright shiny world”… but the first book blew the others away by a landslide. it was a shame that the controversy over it’s fact-or-fiction basis detracted from the critical acclaim, but i felt that the book described addiction in a way that helped me understand what it’s all about – and for that, i thought it was great.

  12. [...] after work, I went to half price bookstore to see if I could find some of your favorite books (which if you still haven’t told me, I’d still like to know). One of my coworkers had mentioned this book, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, in passing to me in [...]
