gitg_albumcover There is something about his gritty voice that just draws me in. Maybe part of it is the fact that he’s a bit of a recluse and not in the music industry for the fame and fortune of it all. I have thoroughly played out his last two CDs with Til the Sun Turns Black probably being my favorite. His voice is just haunting and the lyrics are meaningful and well thought out. This CD seems to be Ray stepping out of his comfort zone just a little bit; it is more upbeat than his past and it’s obvious in the first song, You Are the Best Thing – there are horns, sultry backup singers and it’s just so full of energy! But it still has the traditional characteristic of Ray LaMontagne, mainly that VOICE! Winter Birds is one of three on the album (A Falling Through and Gossip in the Grain being the others) that is pretty reminiscent of previous albums, with the lyrics written like a poem. I have to say, I don’t think I’ll care what Ray sings as long as I get to listen. His voice and talent rise above others in the music industry and I can’t wait to hear what he does next.

Jeremy’s mom brought over this cd one night and we have enjoyed it ever since. I really like his voice. It’s funny we heard one of his songs on a show last week…can’t remember which one (there’s a sign that I watch too much tv!)

Yeah, he’s been featured on a bunch of TV shows. His song ‘Empty’ was on Bella (the movie) and it was just perfect for the scene it was in . . .

His story is pretty amazing and just a bit sad. It makes sense why his music sounds the way it does when you learn his background!

Love him! Chris and I saw him in concert here in Belfast. He didn’t say but two words during the whole concert…but the music was amazing.
