A friend of mine from church commissioned me to make this t-shirt quilt for her teenage son as a Christmas gift. It was a first for me on a couple levels – first t-shirt quilt and first quilt larger than a baby quilt. I tried to take the most modern approach to a t-shirt quilt that I could think of, from the colors used to the orientation of the t-shirt pieces. I ended up deciding on the diamond motif with grey as accent color. The squares were 13″x13″ and I used muslin to back the squares to keep them from stretching. It worked but I don’t know if I would go that route again if I ever sew another t-shirt quilt. Very thin iron on interfacing is the better way to go. . .

But all of the lessons learned on this project aside, I think the final product was quite nice. Hope he likes it!

Great job Liz. I am making one from ALL my Hard Rock Cafe t-shirts and sweatshirts I have collected over the years. I saved them ALL! I love the layout you used.
