Word of the Year 2011

Ah yes, the word of the year. Last year was ‘trust‘ and let’s just say it didn’t go so well. I learned much about myself in light of that word, so I still feel that this is a worth exercise. This year, after faced with much doubt from the previous year, I didn’t have to think too long to come up with a word. It wasn’t a word I wanted to admit to or own. Not one bit. But I swallowed my pride and decided that my word of the year for 2011 would be ‘Belief‘. Confidence in the truth or existence of something not immediately susceptible to rigorous proof. Confidence, faith or trust.

'Belief 2011'

I’ve shared a little on the blog previously, how my faith has always been plagued with doubt, but this year, I allowed circumstances to drag me and my doubt to a new low. Regardless of how far into doubt I go, there is a nagging, persistant, hopeful voice that tells me that my belief is true, that it’s real. So this year I want to take the time to listen to that little voice more often.

Keeping with tradition and the hope of one day creating a large quilt with all of these ‘word of the year’ blocks, I made a dresden plate block and I used a tutorial found here. Very fun block to sew and the fabrics are mostly Patricia Bravo.

Great word of the year, I love the way you have created the quilt square too. My word of the year is minimise, it covers so many areas of my life that I want to make changes in and I’m optimistic and excited about where it will lead. Good luck with your word this year.

I think it would be interesting to look back and select a word for past years in retrospect, still thinking about them.

    Have a lovely day,
    Jade
