Getting fabric in the mail has to be one of life’s little pleasures. Such beautiful colors greeted me this time! I ordered the fabric for Jude’s new ‘big boy quilt’ and I love them all. All Kona cotton solids, left to right, kumquat, medium grey, windsor, lagoon, aloe (my favorite and likely the color of the paint in Jude’s room), aqua, sand, peridot, cactus.

When you quilters are making quilts, do you prewash? I always have in the past but I have heard conflicting stories and I’m anxious to cut into these great colors!

Nope…not unless I am *really* worried about bleeding, like with reds. If I was using the fabrics you picked I wouldn’t…but that’s just me. :) You can always through a Shout Color Catcher in the wash and that helps too.

Awesome – I just needed someone to tell me that they do it that way! I figure, even after I wash it after quilting, any minimal shrinking will make the whole quilt look more crinkly which I like.

  3. I agree – quilts should be crinkly! Can’t wait to see the finished product; those are some beautiful colors!

Agreed – I stopped prewashing my stuff. Reds are the only colors that make me nervous. If I have unwashed reds. I use a color catcher and some vinegar in the wash, and I haven’t had any bleeding yet.
