You may remember the colors that I picked and the inspiration for Jude’s new room. . . Well, I finally got started! It has been quite some time since I’ve sat down and sewn anything. You know. Life. That, and I have been on a SERIOUS reading kick (uh, I think I’ll be at 8 books this month by the end of this week (p.s. Do you guys still like reading my book reviews here? ‘Cause I kinda moved all that to GoodReads.)). Sewing took a back seat.

This was a great way to jump back in. I did not prewash the fabric and thanks to some awesome cutting skills from the ladies at SewMamaSew, I just zipped stripes off with my rotary cutter in 2″, 3″, 4″ and a few 6″ strips. I allowed for a 12″ chunk of grey at the top and bottom and randomly joined the strips matching up the left edge the whole time. Funny because you can see how different bolts of fabric vary just a bit in width (on the right edge).  This came together so fast. It’s a twin size and it’s a touch long so I may be trimming down a bit.

I ordered a bit too much fabric so I’m going to make two stripped, giant, floor pillows for his rooms too. I think those could be a lot of fun to have around.

Jude's big boy quilt top

Every time I look at these colors, I like them more! And I can’t wait to start the back. I’m looking forward to figuring out how to piece the houndstooth patterns for the back. I am torn on what to use for the binding – some stripes? Polka dots? Solid color? Patchwork of solid colors? We’ll see.

The good news is that Jude is already trying to hijack it to put on his bed – “Can we put the NEW blanket on my bed?”. He doesn’t quite understand that it’s not done yet. I think he likes it!
