I got a bit of new yarn this week (belated Christmas gift) and wanted to test out my new set of Christmas knitting needles as well as try knitting with bulky yarn. After a bit of a search, along came the drop stitch cowl.
After knitting something with bulky yarn, I now understand the appeal – I started and finished this cowl on the same day! And I learned a new stitch! I completed three of the five drop stitch rows and would have liked to done them all to make it taller but I ran out of yarn. The cowl is still cozy and warm so I’m not going to worry about it too much.
And I’m making some good progress on Jude’s sweater which is now sized large enough. In the future I will think twice about starting a large project with sock yarn again. . . it is a slow going process but I do love how soft, delicate and beautiful it is turning out. And don’t you just love that yarn bowl? Another great Christmas present.
I am also participating in the Downton Abbey KAL and I think I’m going to try my hand at the Regina art deco styled hat. I’ve never knit a hat and it seems so different from crocheting a hat . . . but it’ll be a good learning experience!

Love the cowl! So cute!
